August 15 is Check the Chip Day
History of Check the Chip Day
Many veterinarians and other animal health individuals use this day as a great reason to do a basic check-up as well as check the working status of the chip. The chips that are the namesake of this important day have become more and more commonplace due to the growth of social media and electronics improvement. The ability to have a smart phone or computer that can check a pet’s location at any given time is something that could not have been imagined just a few short years ago.
How to celebrate Check the Chip Day
Emails the vet’s practice list announcing Check the Chip Day and make a suggestion to schedule an appointment. If the pet is already chipped, suggest a test and verification of the chip’s parameters. After all, the chip will not be of any use if it contains a wrong number, or if information is not in the database properly when a pet goes missing and the chip picks up on that. So update the info, get the battery replaced if it needs it, and spend some time with your pet. After all, a visit to the veterinarian shouldn’t always be traumatic. Suggest a special treat (maybe a little vanilla ice cream?), a trip to the park or just some new toys to play with in the house. Give new meaning to the phrase “The Dog Days of Summer”.
Give your animals some loving, and keep them safe this year on Check the Chip Day.
August 22 is National Bring Your Cat to the Vet Day
While humans are used to visiting the dentist, doctor and optician regularly for health assessments, many cat owners forget to take their fur balls to the vet for regular check-ups; opting for appointments when a medical problem arises. Medical visits like these often result in costly bills that might have been avoided with routine checks, worming, inoculations and blood screening. In other words, the veterinarian can suggest to pet owners that they can help their patients stay healthy by identifying any medical problems long before they require extensive and expensive treatment.
