Basic Dental Extraction Techniques

New to veterinary dentistry, or just need a refresher in technique? Dental extractions are one of the most common surgical procedures performed in daily veterinary practice. In this basic laboratory, you will:

  • Recognize the most common indications for dental extractions
  • Learn how to select instrumentation for efficient extractions
  • Learn the basic techniques of surgical dental extractions and flap design
  • Practice these techniques on cadaver heads with direct supervision from two board-certified veterinary dentists

Arm yourself with the necessary skillset for basic abdominal scanning techniques. In this session, you will:

  • Discuss the basic physics of ultrasound and learn how to manipulate machine controls to improve image quality
  • Learn the anatomy and normal ultrasonographic appearances of the main abdominal organs
  • Practice your new skills in small groups under the mentorship of experienced instructors

No prior ultrasound experience is required to register.

Advanced Dental Extraction Techniques

  • Important anatomy critical in your understanding and execution of the more complicated dental extractions.
  • Extractions of the more technically challenging teeth in dogs and cats
  • Techniques in oronasal fistula repair
  • Retrieval of retained tooth roots and root tips

Prior dental extraction experience is required when registering for this course.

  • Learn abnormal ultrasonographic appearances of common pathology to the major abdominal
    organs
  • Explore the anatomy and ultrasound technique of the gastrointestinal tract, adrenal glands, and

  • Practice your new skills in small groups under the mentorship of experienced instructors

Must have prior ultrasound experience (ability to find major organs) OR attendance of Basic Abdominal Ultrasound lab required to register.
